- Abstract:
- In recent decades, various studies have performed on leaching of sulphide ores in ammoniacal thiosulphate solution for the recovery of precious metals such as gold and silver and significant results have been gained. In this study, the ammonia thiosulfate solution utilized to dissolve copper sulfide concentrate, which contained chalcopyrite. The effect of various parameters such as grain size, thiosulfate and ammonia concentration, solid to liquid ratio, temperature and pH in turbulent leaching process were considered to obtain the optimum conditions in the laboratory scale. The outcomes obtained by chemical analysis were evaluated. The results demonstrate that maximum dissolution (26.72%) was obtained in 2% pulp density (5.21 g/L chalcopyrite). in all three solutions, (4 M NH3, 0.4 M Thio), (1 M NH3, 0.4 M Thio) and (1 M NH3, 0.1 M Thio), pH’s 9.5, 10, 10.5 and 11.5 were assessed. The maximum dissolution’s occurred obtained at pH=10 with the amounts of 34.87, 16.16 and 9.30 percent respectively. With the increase of concentration from 1 to 8 molar for the Ammonia, dissolution of Copper improved from 17.73 to 41.91 percent. In 4 M ammonia solution, with altered thiosulfate concentration from zero to 2 molar, copper dissolution enhanced from 13.62 to 38.52 percent. Under the circumstance of pH=10, dissolution is improved from 37.66 to 54.26, due to the increase in temperature from 25 to 45 degre Celsius. Whereas, increasing temperature to 65 degree Celsius, decreased solubility to 48.85 percent. The dissolution rate declined with increasing time. Dissolution was decreased from 41.04 to 34.22 percent with increasing grain size from 40 to 100-120 micron and in comparison to other oxidants oxygen showed better performance as it improved dissolution from 37.66 to 62.34 percent
