- Abstract:
- Smoke must be exhausted, as the first action, in probable fire in subways, underground transportation systems and mines in order to survive people exposed to it. To achieving this purpose, the axial fan should be used to move the smoke to the exit lines. These fans should be had same performances in suction and discharge directions (main and reverse directions). This means flow rate should be the same at main and reverse directions. Therefore, fully reversible axial flow fans should be used in emergency ventilations. The fully reversible axial flow fans have same efficiencies in suction and discharge directions. The symmetric profiles should be used in manufacturing of the blades of these types of fans. In these profiles, leading edge behaviors like trailing edge, and inverse, when direction is reversed. Also pressure side converts to suction side, and inverse, by reversing the direction. At present study, linear cascade of two-dimensional elliptical profile are simulated for different solidities and Reynolds numbers. Then, lift coefficients, drag coefficients and blade loading factors are calculated for different angle of attacks and Reynolds numbers. In order to design the reversible axial fans, an arbitrary vortex method is presented. In this study, effects of different vortex patterns are investigated on reversible axial fans designing. This method is then confirmed using three-dimensional simulations of the fans. The simulations indicate maximum static and total efficiencies for designed fan are 75% and 86% respectively
