  7. Abstract:
  8. ISO 10303 Standard also known as STEP, is an standard in the domain of mechanical manufacturing that describes data relating to drawings, design, machining, process planning, engineering and other aspects of product which all together can describe the entire life cycle of products. However, as this standard is newly born and developing these data models are expensive and time consuming, so far, no data model for description of cutting tools is developed. In this project we study the STEP parts and protocols to understand how data is stored. We study EXPRESS Modeling language, the language developed as part of the STEP standard which is the official language of data modeling in STEP. And use it to develop our data model. We do a comprehensive research on cutting tools with focus on Milling and Turning tools and identify their important attributes with witch a certain tool is easily described and used. We implement our EXPRESS model into SQL Server database format and provide a web application that enables users to use the data model for both storing their tool information and searching among the database items by machining features. The software also makes it possible to generate the database into an XML file which then can be easily transferred through web. This, as a result, enables our model to be presented as a cloud service on a CAD/CAM cloud manufacturing server, which enhances the designers and process plan engineers to choose their tools wisely
