Investigating the Quality of Water in Sangan Iron Ore Tailing Dam for Reuse it to Industrial System

  8. In this project some samples from the water which enters the plant and the effluent water were analyzed and the results were compared due to investigating the quality of water in Sangan mine tailing dams. Considering that Northern C mass contains more than two percent sulfur, it can produce AMD. Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), which is caused by the oxidation of sulfide ores in the mines, is the most important environmental problem. Anticipating potential problems of this waste can prevent the problem. To predict it, Acid-Base Accounting (ABA) test was used. The experiment's parameters like Maximum Potential Acidity (MPA) and Neutralization Potential (NP) were measured for more than 130 samples from B and C masses. The results showed that more than 60% of northern C mass samples have the APR amount less than two which indicates C mass is able to produce AMD. On the other hand the amount of APR in B mass were not less than two in any samples and the amount of neutralizing material in this mass is more than northern C mass. The results showed that the water used in the manufacture is now faced with increased soluble salts and increasing the residence time of the waste tailings dam is the ability to create acid. Taken together, these results and evaporation over the area, planning and attention to environmental issues in the tailings dam is mandatory. There are some solutions like using alkaline mineral in dam's wall and precise programming for sequential extracting from northern C and B mass in order for acid neutralizing and AMD controlling that can be used in Sangan mine tailing dams and in addition to the usage of water from the tailings dam it can prevent further problems
