- Abstract:
- The most important issues in massive concrete structures such as concrete dams are the increase in temperature due to heat generated by the dam Hydration of cement in concrete. Internal restrains are created from thermal gradient between the surface and the interior of the structure. External restrains are created from connections between structures and foundation for obstruct the movement of concrete structures due to temperature change. External restrains and internal creates tensile stresses in the concrete considerable, which can lead to thermal cracks in the structure. To prevent or minimize the possibility of cracks are examined thermal studies for the design of reinforced concrete structures, especially large dams. One of the key goals of the RCC dam is the speed of building the construction, so the time between two layers of concrete are important. Thus, the predicted temperature profiles in RCC dam as a function of the dam section and the concrete layer thickness and timing between concrete placements has particular importance. In this thesis, thermal analysis of concrete dams during the construction and operation of roller was studied. In this study, by considering weather conditions, schedule of dam concrete placement, concrete placement temperature, and other parameters required for RCC Dam Zhavh case study has been examined. For this dam, thermal analysis (using software FLUENT), structural analysis (using software ANSYS) and the approximate analysis of crack for a period of 50 years after construction (during construction and operation) is carried out. The calibration in this thesis shows that analytical results matched well with the actual results recorded in the dam body. Due to the stress distribution, during production, maximum tensile stress is equal to 0.51 MPa that occurs in the horizontal axis at the start of 180 day project implementation and close down the top layer. Upon completion of construction, the maximum tensile stress is 0.7 MPa and stress is less than the maximum allowable tensile stress that is 1.6 MPa. According to strain distribution, the maximum tensile strain during operation (15 of dey in each year) is 90 microns, which occurs at the dam crest. In surface crack analysis, the most critical levels are between 1291 and 1301 that are the levels the tensile strain limit is exceeded and there is the possibility of cracks in these levels. In analysis of a volumetric crack, the most critical point is in the vertical and horizontal coordinates 18.03 and 97.53. Maximum tensile strain occurs at the point where its value is equal to 91 microns and is less than maximumallowable tensile strain (100 microns). It is expected that do not happen the volumetric crack
