  7. Abstract:
  8. High photonic responsivity and excellent quantum efficiency of high-Tc superconductors make them a promising candidate for photonic detectors. Interesting features of detectors which are based on Josephson Junctions such as high sensitivity in a wide range of frequencies, potentially have many advantages over other semiconductor-based photo-detectors. According to variety of applications of high-Tc superconductors, particularly YBCO, and significant progress in manufacturing of thin films and Josephson junctions, this thesis mainly focuses on investigation of light emission effects on high-Tc Josephson Junctions and its theory. In our work, at the beginning, the current-voltage characteristics of grain boundary Josephson Junctions based on YBCO superconductor which is deposited on a bicrystal SrTiO3 substrate, are evaluated and discussed. The steps taken to prepare the junctions, measurement procedure and a comparison between attained I-V characteristics of our junctions and the characteristics of other types of junctions are also mentioned. Moreover, we report flux flow and noise rounding behavior in our measurement. Thereafter, emission of 635nm wavelength light effects on the junction characteristics were discussed and we got higher responsivity than other low-Tc Josephson junction based light detectors. Also, it is deduced from our measurement results that the response is non-bolometric
