  7. Abstract:
  8. Photonic quasi-crystals fibers as well as photonic crystal fibers have very interesting features, such as endlessly single mode, ultraflattened dispersion and high birefringence. Due to the wavelength dependence of their cladding and the ability to manipulate the air holes in the cladding can improve physical properties of fibers. Recently photonic quasi-crystal fibers have been studied due to interesting structure and observation of improved physical properties in them than the photonic crystal fibers and their applications in communication systems. In this thesis and in the first section, we have studied and reviewed the various optical properties of photonic quasi-crystal fiber with fold symmetry which is investigated by others and in the second section, we have simulated and analyzed the Penrose structure photonic quasi-crystal fibers with 5 and10-fold symmetry which works with step index guiding. We have compared some of their properties such as dispersion parameter, V parameter and single-mode region with hexagonal photonic crystal fiber and finally, by calculating the effective mode area, we have shown the single and multi mode regime well. Given the importance of the birefringence in the various applications such as the polarization maintaining fibers and 10-fold photonic quasi-crystal fiber has the very low birefringence and almost zero, we have proposed two different structures of the fiber with the optimized parameters related to the cross section. Finally, we have calculated and analyzed the improved physical properties such as birefringence, beat length, elliptical properties of air holes, confinement loss and dispersion. It is noteworthy that the obtained beat length in comparison with different types of fibers is very low and in the wavelength of 1500 nm is 0.23 mm
