  7. Abstract:
  8. In this millennium there has been a thought-provoking dispute over the inclusion of Critical Thinking (CT) programs into teaching syllabi; this inspiring challenge of change has led researcher to investigate the teachability and transferability of Critical Thinking. Thus, this study investigated whether explicit critical thinking instruction can foster critical thinking skills of in-service EFL teachers and enhance their disposition, perception and attitude. To fulfill the purposes of this study, California Critical Thinking Skill Tests (CCTST), EMI Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory, as well as perception and attitude questionnaires were utilized. The participants of this research were 97 male and female in-service EFL teachers, whose proficiency level was determined via a revised TOFEL Test. Subsequently, 64 teachers who got the highest scores were selected and randomly split into experimental and control groups. Both groups completed pre-tests of CT skills, disposition, attitude, and perception and their homogeneity was checked at the beginning for each variable. After that, experimental group was explicitly instructed in a Thinking Skills training course for a 6-week period. Simultaneously, the control group was attending a general teacher training course. Both experimental and control groups underwent a posttest after termination of the training courses. The results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in the posttest regarding CT skills and disposition. Also, the perception and attitude of in-service EFL teachers in the experimental group were higher than their counterpart in the control group. Thus, it is confirmed that the Enhancement of CT components will not automatically result as a by-product of general teacher training course; consequently, the teachability of CT in teacher education program seems indispensible. The thesis concluded with the implication, inclusion, and entailment of CT for teacher training courses as well as curriculum, syllabus and practical classes
