- Abstract:
- In this work, simulation of 3D three-phase naturally fractured reservoirs is studied. Both Dual Porosity and Dual Porosity-Dual Permeability models which are commonly used in commercial softwares such as ECLIPSE and CMG, are utilized. The governing equations include the mass (in Black-oil model) and linear momentum (in Darcy law form) equations, which are converted into pressure equations and a set of transport equations for the saturations and mole fractions of phases. These equations are solved once for the matrix domain and subsequently for the fracture domain. These two set of equations are coupled through transfer functions. The accuracy of computations significantly depends on how realistic these functions areevaluated. Several transfer functions have been proposed by researchers. In this work, some of the most practical transfer functions introduced by Kazemi, Kazemi-Gilman, Quandel-Sabatier are investigated. In order to solve these equations, the so-called IMPES (Implicit Pressure Explicit Saturation) method is employed. This method is applied to structured computational grid in which each computational cell is split into two superposed grids for matrix and fracture. In each cell, the number of block matrices encircled by fracture network is determined by shape factors. Several shape factors has been investigated by researchers to apply the effect of geometry and boundary condition of block matrix in an accurate way. Among of which, the pseudo steady state concept are being used in this work to determine proper shape factors, which is popular and also is convenient to be applied into simulators. To verify the developed computer program test cases presented in the Sixth SPE Comparative Study and that by Ahmed Abushaikha 2008 are solved. Also, a number of benchmark problems were designed, solved and compared with available data
