  7. Abstract:

  8. Nowadays the increasing congestion in transportation networks has made the managerial methods for controlling the congestion more important. Cordon pricing is one of the managerial means for reducing congestion. Therefore, accurate modeling methods that are consistent with reality and efficient traffic assignment algorithms play important roles in solving this problem. In this research several multiclass traffic assignment algorithms were examined and simultaneous complementarity algorithm was recognized to be able to yield equilibrium solution faster than other algorithms examined in this study. The aim of this thesis was also to analyze the effects of cordon pricing on networks with two classes of vehicles whereby non carpooling vehicles must pay toll to pass through the cordon. A number of networks such as Chicago sketch and Chicago regional networks were used in this study. The results obtained from Chicago sketch network demonstrate that simultaneous complementarity algorithmobtains equilibrium solution approximately thirty three times faster than successive complementarity algorithm. This algorithm for different amounts of toll and under various increased levels of demand for Chicago sketch network is still superior to other algorithms.
