- Abstract:
- The sulfur compounds in crude oil cause air pollution, metallic equipments’ corrosion and refinery catalysts poisoning like reforming catalysts. Therefore it is necessary to use hydrodesulfurization catalysts for sulfur content reduction. Hydrodesulfurization is the most common desulfurization method in the industry. In this method, sulfur compounds react with the hydrogen in presence of ComMo/γ Al2O3 catalyst and under hard operational conditions like high temperature ( 300-340 ͦC) and high pressure (20-100 atm of hydrogen). Then, these compounds are turned into hydrogen sulfide and hydrocarbons. In the next step, produced hydrogen sulfide will be eliminated from oil cutting. In this thesis, we have investigated the common methods to synthesize γ Al2O3 and catalyst of desulfurization process to select one of these methods, and evaluation of the catalyst activity for HDS process. In this research, wet chemical and co-precipitation methods were used for γ Al2O3 synthesis. Also for synthesis catalysts, consecutive and simultaneous wet impregnation method are used. The catalyst with 15 wt% Mo, 3.5 wt% Co and 500 ͦC calcination temperature had the most activity for desulfurization(90 percentage). Results from catalyst’s activity test show that catalyst with synthesized support had 92% conversion, and promoted catalyst with boron had 93.5% conversion for sulfur compounds
