- Abstract:
- Usually the structures are designed based on the fixed-base assumption; however thisassumption is not always correct and the bed flexibility should be considered. This effectwhich is called soil-structure interaction, change the response of structure on both elasticand inelastic behavior. In the regulations for the design of structures on flexible base, generally soil-structure system is replaced with an equivalent fixed base structure; in theway that the design force of soil-structure system with reasonable accuracy can beestimated by equivalent fixed-base structure. In some regulations, dynamic characteristicsof equivalent structure have been determined on elastic state and the results have beenextended for inelastic case of soil-structure system. In other words, in this method thenonlinear behavior of structure is not considered in equivalent method. This techniquewas first reported in ATC3-06 criteria and then was used in various regulations such as ASCE7-05. In the next edition of the Code, ASCE7-10, was trying to reform theequivalent structure’s damping for estimating the design force of the soil-structure system more accurately. In this study, it is triedto be presented a simple method for accurateestimation of the nonlinear soil-structure system, and its equivalent single degree offreedom linear structures.Due to a design approach based on performance, andcomparison with seismic retrofit regulations, the main parameters of this study, themaximum displacement of the structure is considered. The structure used in this thesis, is linear and nonlinear.Equivalent method is used in this case is two stages, first using the relations in [19], the non-linear structure becomes to linear structure by equivalentperiod and damping, and then considering the effect of soil-structure interaction, and linear soil-structure systems are equivalent with a linear single degree of freedom(one DOF) structure. Then the error in estimating displacement of soil-structure systems is calculated andThe results of the proposed method is compared with results of theexisting methods
