- Abstract:
- Interfacial Tension (IFT) as a main parameter for gas flooding efficiency in oil reservoirs depends highly on pressure, temperature, and composition of the reservoir fluids. Therefore, it is important to measure this parameter at real reservoir condition for successful field development plan. In this study, an axisymmetric drop shape analysis (ADSA) has been utilized to measure the equilibrium IFTs in crude oil-CO2 as well as crude oil-N2 systems at different temperatures and pressures. Moreover, minimum miscibility pressures (MMP) and first-contact miscibility pressures (Pmax) of crude oil/CO2 and crude oil/N2 systems at different temperature levels are determined by applying vanishing interfacial tension (VIT) technique. Then, the effect of paraffin on the crude oil/CO2 and crude oil/N2 IFT behavior is investigated. Furthermore, the role of resin to asphaltene ratio on IFT behavior of crude oil/CO2 systems at equilibrium condition is evaluatedBased on the experimental results of crude oil/CO2 systems the following conclusions can be drawn:
The IFT has decreasing trend with temperature at low pressures region, which increases at high pressures. Also, the MMP and Pmax of crude oil/CO2 were found to increase linearly with temperature. The results indicate that paraffin has critical effect on the crude oil/CO2 IFT behavior. It was also found that the lower the ratio of resin to asphaltene is, the more the probability of asphaltene precipitation by tracing the IFT behavior of the solution. Moreover, the higher the molecular weight of heavier components of the crude oil is, the more the value of MMP.
Based on the experimental results of crude oil/N2 systems the following conclusions can be drawn:
The IFT has decreasing trend with temperature in all pressures. The IFT decreases linearly in two distinct pressure ranges. Also, the MMP of crude oil/N2 was found to decrease linearly with temperature. The results indicate that paraffin has critical effect on the crude oil/N2 IFT behavior. No obvious phenomenon for asphaltene precipitation in crude oil/N2 system in was observed. Moreover, the higher the molecular weight of heavier components of the crude oil is, the more the value of crude oil/N2 MMP. In addition, the MMP of crude oil/CO2 system is much lower than the MMP of crude oil/N2 system - Keywords:
