- Abstract:
- Many of today’s energy infrastructures need to be restructured to accompany the changes in the needs of humankind. On the one hand, more human activitie’s dependency on different energy carriers, and on the other hand, reduction of fossil fuels as the main energy resources, have caused that policies in many countries to be faced with fundamental changes in the area of energy. Optimal use of different types of energy carriers as an integrated system, is one of the main strategies that have been proposed to enhance energy efficiency. Using the concept of energy hub as the main key of integrated energy systems, this project intends to design a general framework for optimization and management of different energy consumption (electricity and gas) in urban areas. In this regard, the first step is the modeling of different types of residential energy demand (electricity, heating, cooling) to analyze the trend of energy consumption in urban areas. This model is used as an input of the proposed framework. Afterward, by investigating various conversion and storage technologies (e.g., boiler, CHP, electrical and thermal energy storage systems) different path of energy supplying from global networks is detected. In the next step, a multi-layer modeling algorithm is proposed to choose the optimal size of the hub’s elements. And then, the mathematical model of optimization problem is extracted. Each of the investment cost, energy cost (total cost of energy consumption, operation and maintenance) and reliability index (expected energy not served) has been considered as the main criteria for optimization studies. Multi-objective optimization algorithm is proposed to analyze this optimization problem. By applying the proposed method on a sample residential area, the results are extracted and evaluated. On the one hand, these results indicate that the proposed framework is able to achieve optimal solution of energy management in residential area. Moreover, these results confirm the ability of an integrated operation to improve the energy efficiency
