- Abstract:
- The visible growth in usage of computer networks in daily human life has significantly increased the importance of their correct and flawless operation. Various solutions have been offered to evaluate the operation correctness of network equipment. One of the most important issues in this context is evaluating the performance of such equipment. Due to the increase in speed of network ports, design and implementation of performance evaluation tools have become a challenging issue in terms of parameters such as speed, time accuracy, power consumption and cost. In this thesis, a hardware-based system for testing network equipment with 10 Gbps ports has been designed and implemented. This system has a modular design so that beside performing standard tests such as RFC 2544, other traffic generation modules, based on any statistical model, can also be added to it. The cost of this system is considerably lower than similar commercial tools.Another important issue in testing network equipment is the generation of realistic traffic. In this project, a traffic recorder and player have also been designed which can be used for replaying pre-captured traffic. This system is also capable of modifying the captured traffic based on any statistical model, before playback. According to our results, the system has achieved desired performance and accuracy in evaluating the performance of 10 Gbps network equipment, based on RFC 2544, and it is also capable of replaying pre-captured traffic without affecting the statistical properties of the captured traffic
