  7. Abstract:
  8. One of the most significant problems of oil regions is salinity of the produced water extracted from the well. Penetrating the produced water through the surrounding environments of the oil well in recent years, plenty of environmental problems, especially agricultural ones have been caused in these areas. According to the increasing trend of water salinity during the time, one of the urgent action in the oil industry of the country should be finding a way to reduce the amount of dissolved salt in the produced water. The purpose to this project has been representing a more appropriate configuration for desalination of the produced water. Therefore, the water sample containing less than 70000 ppm has been considered as the feed water. Investigating all desalination methods, the most suitable on has been of vapor compression and multi effect vapor compression. Due to low capacity as well as high consumption of electricity and vapor in single effect system, multi effect thermal vapor compression has been introduced as the best known method and simulation as well as sensitivity analysis of the obtained results has been conducted based on the effective parameters. Based upon these result, in the best case, the number of desalination step has been 20 and the temperature of initial effect 110 degree centigrade. The recovery efficiency and performance ratio for these desalination have been 33.33 and 13.64, respectively; and the total cost has been estimated to be 1615 dollars per cubic meters of producing distilled water
