- Abstract:
- In this study Donepezil effect on the brain functional connectivity investigated. In order to construct the brain functional network, EEG artifacts must firstly be removed because this step has important effects on the final interpretation of the results. Therefor, a new artifact removing method is proposed and better performance of the proposed method compared to other existing methods is stated using quantitative evaluations. After artifact removal, the functional brain network is extracted using conventional methods that were applied in the similar previous studies. The reasons for using conventional methods are their simplicity and reliability. Furtheremore, to study the recent extracting connectivity methods, a novel method based on Granger causality was investigated and the effect of spatial correlated additive noise on the performance of respective method was analyzed. Finally, such new method is suggested for extracting effective connectivities and it was tested on Biomag 2014 challenge data set. After extracting the network, inferences are made using hypothesis testing. Hypothesis testing with 0.05 significant level was shows that the left frontal region functional connectivities have been changed at delta and beta frequency bands during Donepezil usage. These results are compatible with the previous researches which have shown that the respective drug changes the frontal activities and connectivities. At the end of this study, a new approach was proposed in order to estimate the power of statistical network comparisons using global network measures. Simulations show that the power of hypothesis testing can be considered as a function of hypothesis testing and network parameters
