- Abstract:
- Reduction in the oil reserves level and the increasing of fossil fuel prices and GHG has led to growing value of attention to biodiesel. Reserves of fossil fuels are running out and should have proper alternative for them. Environmental benign and renewable properties of biodiesel make it consider suitable candidate to replace fossil fuels.
In this study, continuous production of biodiesel and optimization of important and influential parameters have been investigated. The method is concluded of trans esterification of soya oil with methanol as feed in presence of homogeneous catalyst of NaOH. The reactor was simple with high efficiency and low operational and investment cost. The reactor made of a tubular with different mixing elements which its design utilized a combination of advantages other reactors. Following 4- factors including; the methanol/oil molar ratio, flow rate of feed, the reaction temperature and the catalyst percent in 3-level were optimized for their effects on trans esterification efficiency by Taguchi experimental design.
The optimized point in residence time of 1 minute and 41 seconds was obtained at: the methanol/oil molar ratio 4.5 reaction temperature 65ºC, mass flow rate of oil 30 g/min and the mass percent catalyst to oil 1% that ANOVA method calculated conversion response of 98.53%. Experimental data was resulted at this point in 94.7%.
