- Abstract:
- In order to identify the representative radioactive waste streams at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) for use in Scaling Factor Determination Program for BNPP, all the relevant technical documents of BNPP including the Final Safety Assessment Report (FSAR) and Operation Manuals (OM) were carefully studied. In addition, the waste stream lines were closely examined by frequently visiting the plant and consulting with the responsible technical staff of BNPP.
As a result, twelve distinct waste streams (2 streams of concentrated waste, 3 streams of sludge, 1 stream of spent resin of TC31B001 tank, 1 stream of spent resin of UZ20B001 tank, 1 stream of selective sorbent TR41B001, 1 stream of titanium porous sponges, 1 stream of compressible solid waste of group I, 1 stream of non- compressible solid waste of group I, 1 stream of solid waste of group II) identified from waste streams of Bushehr nuclear plant.
Duplicate samples were taken from the above 12 identified waste streams and the ratio of special activity of two gamma emitting elements Cs-137, Co-60 ((Cs-137)⁄(Co-60)) in them measured by gamma ray spectrometry.
It was found that the gamma ray analysis results confirm the categorization of waste streams into twelve representative streams. Further decrease in number of representative streams needs additional studies such as measuring the alpha and beta emitting nuclides in waste samples - Keywords:
