- Abstract:
- The Mashhad plain is one of the most important plains in Khorasan-e-Razavi province. In the last decades, rapid population growth coupled with agricultural expansion has tremendously increases pressure on the groundwater resources. Large increases in water demands with little recharge have strained the plain groundwater resources resulting in declines in water level in last decades. Due to declining of groundwater level, digging new wells has been forbidden since 1965. In this thesis, users in agricultural, municipals and industrial sections have been modeled with Multi-Agent System, and results of their water extraction on groundwater level have been modeled with GMS. There are two scenarios in this thesis which in the first one, usual trends until 2016 have been modeled, and in the second one, the allowable water extraction for agricultural users has been changed from 92 percent to 87 percent, and its effects on groundwater level until 2016 have been modeled. The groundwater level in these two scenarios have been compared so at year 2016 groundwater level of second scenario is 1.48 meters higher that first scenario. As a result, holding the water extraction restriction for agricultural users is a useful method for retrieving groundwater level in The Mashhad Plain
