- Abstract:
- With development of power electronic science and with the existence of different power electronic converters in this field, the need for improving their operation and the fault detection methods of these converters, the need for simulation and test of them is strong felt. However, experimental constrain such as damage risks, reliability, costs, and so on obviate the need for making the converter and the need for testing it and its controller. Accordingly, we do the testing on a special platform for Real-Time simulation.Control/protection platform needs to be tested and its functionality should be verified prior to installation and commissioning.Testing in theReal-Time simulator environment is practically the only option to safely and thoroughly verify the design integrity and evaluate its functionality and performance. Moreover, a Real-Time simulator is also required to conduct statistical switching studies, as it substantially reduces the total run-time of the study. This thesis proposes and develops a generalized methodology for implementation of the power electronic equations in FPGA environment. The studied power electronic converter is C-HB (Cascaded H-Bridge).The model of this converteris based on ADC—Associate Discrete Circuit—method. The developed methodology enables Real-Time operation for statistical switching studies. Based on the developed methodology, an FPGA-based simulator is developed and tested. It enables the use of a nanosecond range simulation time-step to simulate large systems in Real-Time. Thus, it is also able to provide a wide frequency bandwidth for simulation results. Also, the created system can be used for the fault detection of power electronic converters in a nanosecond range
