- Abstract:
- Due to large range searches (there are various alignments between two points) as well as the complex and non-linear cost functions and a variety of geometric constraints, the problem of optimal railway alignment is known as a difficult problem. For this reason, choosing an alignment between two points is usually done based on a limited number of alignments put forward by experts. In recent years, the study of the railway alignment optimization raised again due to the importance of optimization and introduction of various algorithms and their progress in solving various problems. It is expected that applying metaheuristic optimization algorithms, such as methods based on Swarm intelligence can lead to better alignments. In this study, we tried to modify the models based on previous studies, design and develop a model based on a single framework for which three-dimensional optimization of alignments, which can be applicable in reality, is provided. To obtain this, the particle swarm algorithm is used and the geographic information system is incorporated as a means of search in three-dimensional space. In particular, the cost function used in previous studies considering the costs related to technical structures (bridges and tunnels) are improved regarding hydraulic structures and hydrology alignments. Furthermore, the transitional curve of horizontal alignment and restrictions of the slope of curves are considered in this project by using the penalty function in order to obtain practical results as much as possible. Finally, this study examined three problems which their results are acceptable in cases of geometry of railway alignments and its application in reality
