  8. Today, renewable energies such as solar and wind power are replaced to fossil fuel. Wind turbines are two categories; horizontal axis and vertical axis. Vertical axis turbines are not dependent on wind direction and since equipments are installed at the bottom of these turbine towers, maintenance is easy. Among vertical axis turbines, performance of darrieus turbine is better. The aim of this thesis is, analysis and preliminary designing of 1-kilowatt darrieus wind turbine, based on climate of the country, for using in urban environments or areas where there is no economic justification for development of power grid systems. In this regard, statistical data base is made up of vertical axis wind turbine such as rotor characteristics, the type of generator, material and other parameters. Then, in this database, 1-kilowatt H-type of darrieus wind turbine has been selected as the base, and parametric study has been done to achieve basic design of optimal darrieus wind turbine. Parametric study and turbine aerodynamic design have been done by using Q-blade software which is based on double multiple flow tube. In this study, the effects of parameters such as blade airfoil type, number of blades, blade length, radius blades and blade chord length, each one individually have been examined on power and torque coefficient. Finally, according to results of this parametric study, the turbine rotor optimized in terms of performance and simulated by Q-blade software. Besides, the electrical components such as selecting generators type and appropriate ways of control and mechanical components such as material, brake, tower and other mechanical components have been also selected for 1-kilowatt darrieus turbine. According to the power, torque and basic torque of the rotor, the generator type has been selected appropriately
