- Abstract:
- The dams as one of the most costly and most fundamental infrastructure that human steps to make their, always paid special attention to people in different historical periods. According to the high cost of this structure, optimum design is so important. On other hand stability of structure as main aspects of the design that in the absence of it is threatening the lives of many people in downstream. Therefor the engineers consider two important aspect when they want to design a dam. The first step in designing is determinate the external loads. A designer not only must recognize this loads but also by using the material that he consume in the body of dams reach to a safety structure in During the period of operation structures. . According to this matters fist you should determinate loads and after that by using from two factors: experiment and data related to examinations use best and effective methods in design. A lot of investigation have been done on dams. Engineers have created codes to move in general and systematic framework. Based on each region have specific condition, the codes aren’t similar. Two approaches that are used in designing are U.S.Army and European engineers’ attitude. In this research fist behavior of concrete as most commonly material that is used in the body under different load condition has been studied. Then it has been introduced the two attitudes and the philosophy for determination permissible strength of concrete. In the EM1110-2-2201 code that it’s presented by Army Engineers Association of America the axial strength of concrete consider as the strength of concrete while European engineers biaxial strength of concrete as the strength of concrete for designing. In the following by modeling four dams under static and dynamic loading, the stress in the body of dams have been compared with each other. The Abaqus software is used for modeling. The results shows considering the axial strength as the strength of design have advantages like accessible strength of concrete in the static and dynamic analysis, Simply Computing for modeling of nonlinear behavior, more capability in Arch dam’s performance under loading. In contrast if the tension stress limited to determinated mount since in the biaxial loading
give high strength, the final structure is more economical - Keywords:
