  7. Abstract:
  8. In the present era consciousness problem and the relationship between mind and matter as one of the historical and difficult philosophical issues has entered in different scientific fields such as neuroscience, cognitive science and physics. With the introduction of quantum theory and offering its different interpretations, some claimed that understanding the consciousness problem will be possible in the light of quantum theory and some claimed that consciousness is necessary for correct understanding of the quantum theory. Henry Stapp and David Bohm, two prominent physicists with two different approaches to quantum theory try to describe this problem from their point of view. Henry Stapp with the orthodox interpretation of quantum mechanics and by adding quantum zeno effect try to explain the problem via four associated processes. In contrast, David Bohm’s view should more be considered as a philosophical project. He introduces the concepts such as holomovement, explicate and implicate Order, soma-significance and signa-somatic and with his ontological interpretation of quantum mechanics suggests that mutual participation (rather than reduction, emergence, causation, or supervenience) is the key relationship that prevails between mind and matter. In this thesis, with a short overview of the scientific, philosophical and quantum approaches to the problem of consciousness, the views of Stapp and Bohm will be detailed and their similarities and differences and criticisms to both views will be discussed. At the end, according to the classification of the existing philosophical views, Stapp’s and Bohm’s view will be introduced interactionist dualism and dual aspect monism respectively and lack of sufficient empirical evidence will mentioned as defects to both views
