  7. Abstract:
  8. We study the Personal Research Space (PRS), that is, the collection of documents a researcher gathers for her research project in order to fnd solutions for a common problem in academic research. During the orientation phase, before the academic research team makes fnal decisions on the course of its studies, abrupt change of directions of studies are common. Ideally, documents in this process are arranged in such a way that time spent in a topic saves a good portion of the time required for research studies in another. We propose an optimization model that provides solutions to parallel this ideal arrangement. PRS as an integral part of the global research system, a highly complex and scale-invariant environment, develops and deposits its contributions in this system. The complex dimensions of the optimization problem above are defned in this context, and therefore, due to the nature of this local problem, in addition to algorithms that process global scale databases, we consider solutions from the “Human in the Loop” algorithms as essential. To synchronize local and global processes as perceived in the PRS development, we beneft from state of the art solutions provided by the recently proposed Academic Firm (AF). We assume that AF can run computational intensive models and data analytic projects, and supports academic research projects with necessary information to make contributions. We create a data structure system based on some results published in the years 2005 to 2015 that suits our framework in order to evaluate the proposed solutions
