  7. Abstract:
  8. The aim of the present research is to investigate the combustion chamber cooling with vortex method in presence of kerosene and liquid oxygen as propellants. For this purpose, a part of oxidizer is entered into the cylindrical combustion chamber tangentially (from bottem of the chamber), and creates a vortex flow (outer vortex). With motion of created outer vortex along the wall and eventually hit its top wall (the head of the chamber), secondary vortex (inner vortex) occurs along the center line, with a downward direction (opposite to the primary vortex). The fuel and other part of the oxidizer injection is also carried in the head of chamber, so by mixing the fuel and oxidizer that happens in the inner vortex, combustion occurs; but due to forces resulting from the presence of vortex flow, the combustion remains only in a limited area at the middle of the chamber and do not move, while there is outer vortex flow inside the chamber and around the walls. With this interpretation, the walls survived from the high temperature of combustion and thus the combustion chamber not need to external cooling. In this research, in order to improve the analysis and design of vortex cooled combustion chamber, numerical simulation and characterization of physics of the flow field is done. The results of this study indicates that the use of this method for cooling the liquid rocket combustion chamber is completely efficient, because the highest possible temperature on the wall is predicted about 600 Kelvin, while at combustion zones of the chamber, temperature is about 3000 to 4000 Kelvin
