  7. Abstract:
  8. Turboexpanders are gaining on interest in power generation as an alternative to Joule Thomson valves. The focus of this thesis is on the conceptual design of the impeller in a turboexpander. First, a one-dimensional design and analysis code is developed by employing the approach given by Aungier. The results are compared with some numerical as well as experimental data. Then, the blade aerofoil profile is generated by incorporating Hasselgruber’s methodology. The results are simulated by utilizing Bladegen and Turbogrid software. An analysis is performed in the CFX environment. The aero-thermodynamic results of the designed impeller of interest are compared with experimental data. An overall deviation of less than five percent is obtained
