- Abstract:
- Optical computing has emerged as a promising candidate for real-ime and parallel continuous data processing. Optical devices that perform spatial and spatiotemporal transformations of optical signals are of great interest for a wide range of applications including ultrafast all-optical information processing and analog optical computations. Although plasmonic metasurfaces(for analog computing applications) was investigated in the past, they are not realizable. Consequently the silicon photonics is a good alternative for realizing these applications.Firstly, the optical computing and its important features explained and a common architecture was introduced. in addition, another two structures presented that is a suitable initialize point for future sections. In this thesis, designed structures are based on silicon photonics, then in the second step by simplification and tolerable approximations could analyze these structures. Combination of Effective Medium Theory(EMT) and Bloch theory leads to semi-analytic solution for periodic dielectric rectangular waveguide array. The full-wave simulation substantiate this solution. This structure is groundwork to designing some computing blocks in following sections. In the third step, one of the most important stages in optical computing, lens was introduced, that it’s based on analyzed structure in earlier stride. Of course lenses based on photonic crystal are investigated in related prior works, but this designed lens has distinguishing features in terms of realization and performance. ّFinally relying on half-wavelength structure, another architecture was presented.Using this, the Laplacian operator was implemented and simulation results verified such this allegation. This level completed by scrutinizing the silicon metamaterial and the dielectric waveguide on silicon photonics
