- Abstract:
- Considering the competitive environment of businesses, organizations are forced to focus on reduction of product life cycle. Product development processes are usually start with the idea “customer’s needs” and its evaluation, and then implementation testing, marketing and etc. To maintain competiveness the process of product development should be considered continuously. Since the life cycle of products are reducing by introduction of new technologies, one may select the strategy of product development by changing the functions of the current product. Annual exhibitions that are involved in innovations, where technology-driven organizations participates to introduce their new products confirm and shows this strategy is common among many organizations. Therefore, the estimation of the cost of the product development process plays a major role in selection of new functions of the developed products. This thesis, firstly develops a conceptual model based on axiomatic design theory to show the relationship between functional changes and profits gained by new functions, and secondly with a hypothetical case study it attempts to estimate the cost of reworks in design and implementing activities as well as changes in raw materials
