  7. Abstract:
  8. The main purpose of this research was functionalizing graphene, in order to achieve higher hydrophobicity, and producing nanocomposite of functionalized graphene and titanium dioxide by hydrothermal method, and sequently invastigation on photocatalytic properties of the powders and corrosion properties of EPD coated samples. Graphene oxide was synthesized by improved Hummers method and reduced and sequently was functionalized through the chemical process with hydrazine and octadecylamine respectively. Then the nanocomposite of functionalized graphene-titania was synthesized by use of titanium isopropoxide precursor and its photocatalytic properties were measured. The analysis of the formation of nanocomposites was done by using XRD, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, XPS and SEM. In the following, a thin film of functionalized graphene-titania was deposited on the copper substrate by the electrophoretic deposition method and then its corrosion properties was investigated. Investigation of photocatalytic properties of nanocomposites was done by chemical degradation of methylene blue molecules in its aqueous solution, by the powder of nanocomposite. Functionalized nanocomposite showed notable enhancement in photocatalytic properties, compared to that of pure anatase, but no enhancement observed compared to non-functionalized nanocomposite and eventually both nanocomposites decomposed about 94% of methylene blue. Investigation of corrosion properties by potentiodynamic polarization showed that non-functionalized and functionalized nanocomposite films has increased corrosion inhibition by 2 and 15 times, respectively, compared to bare copper
