- Abstract:
- In recent years, LBM has shown to be a suitable computational method for most flow simulations. Its simplicity, adaptability for complex geometries, and capability in parallel processing are among many reasons for broad implementation of LBM these days. In this research, we have tried to take advantage of these features in the simulation of a turbulent flow over a moving circular cylinder at low CPU cost. In order to use LBM in a high Reynolds number incompressible flow over a moving solid body, one needs to pay special attention to grid quality, curved solid wall boundary condition, turbulence model, moving boundary, etc. In order to obtain a suitable practical LBM computer code, the following efforts have been made: 1. utilizing inherent LBM capability in parallel processing by using to reduce CPU time, 2. using multi-relaxation-time collision operator to increase numerical stability in high Reynolds numbers, 3. developing standard LBM in conjunction with two-equation turbulence model, and 4. imposing boundary conditions on the body by considering the effects of the body motion. Our case studies include: 1. laminar flow at over a fixed cylinder, 2. laminar flow at over a moving cylinder, 3. laminar flow at over an oscillating cylinder, and 4. turbulent flow at over a fixed cylinder. Afterwards, the obtained results were compared with available credential data. The comparison showed close agreements. Finally, our developed methodology was used for turbulent flow at over an oscillating circular cylinder, the obtained results of which were considerably reasonable. To conclude, this investigation shows that standard LBM is reasonably suitable for incompressible laminar and turbulent flows over fixed and moving bodies
