- Abstract:
- Heat exchangers are one of the most important components used in liquefaction cycles and overall efficiency of the cycle mainly depends on the heat exchangers effectiveness. It has been shown that the effectiveness of these equipments should be high enough to be able to liquefy a gas. Spiral heat exchangers are used frequently in cryogenic industry and specially in Helium liquefaction industry due to their specific characteristics, however according to literature review it turns out that little study is done in the field of simulation and geometrical parameter investigation of these kind of heat exchangers, so in this study the design and simulation of these cryogenics heat exchangers are conducted. A computer code is developed to design and analyse these kind of heat exchangers, it is validated using simulations done and effect of different geometrical parameters on its performance is investigated. At first a spiral cryogenics heat exchanger is designed and effect of radial pitch on heat exchanger size and effect of heat exchanger length on its effectiveness is scrutinized and the chart of ε-NTU is given for these heat exchangers. Shell side pressure drop, assumed in design process, is changed and its effect on heat exchanger size is studied and also the effect of tube diameter on heat exchanger size is investigated and at last the effect of number of spiral heat exchanger layer on its effectiveness is inspected
