  7. Abstract:
  8. Millions of people are exposed to vehicle noise at their work or residence environment daily and as a result their physical and mental healths get in danger. Subsequently the vehicle noise and vibration become an important factor in vehicle quality. Gearbox is a main element in vehicle powertrain and also an important source of noise and vibration. So inspection of vibration and noise in Gearbox and attempting to reduce it will help to reduce vehicle noise and vibration. This project is based on a deal between sharif university of technology and industry in which the target was to make improvement in every source of noise and vibration in a specific vehicle. The aim of this project is to analyze vibration of this vehicle's gearbox through computer aided engineering and attempt to reduce the noise in it. First the finite element model of gearbox casing was prepared in Abaqus 16.4 software and then gearbox dynamic was modeled with AVL Excite Power Unit 16. Finally the gearbox noise results was affordable in Excite Acoustics. Then The results of simulation are validated with results of a test performed with piezoelectric accelerometers located on gearbox casing. After assurance of simulation results correctness the process of gearbox noise reduction is accomplished. For this purpose several parameters have been chosen to be used in gearbox noise optimization with Taguchi method. Along with optimization of these parameter, gearbox casing material is changed to attain and improved gearbox. Noise comparison between original and improved gearbox shows that noise has reduced up to 7 decibles
