The present study aimed to investigate the application of self-leadership strategy by participants in a training course of employment interview through the role playing method to face the relevant challenges. Solving or regulation of the challenges in a training course can result in participants’ learning improvement. This course was taken place as a part of the Human Resource Management Course in 2017 in the graduate school of management and economics at Sharif University of Technology. Initially, background and models were reviewed, and then the research theoretical framework was developed accordingly. In addition, since the subject was rather new, a qualitative research method by interviewing technique was utilized to collect and analyze data. Two general themes along with their different parts and sub-parts were identified from all the interviews, through the theme analysis method. The results revealed that the main self-leadership strategies employed by the students were: gathering the useful information, practical or mental practice, preparation for especial conditions, constructive analysis of experiences, use of environmental factors, useful self-talk, attention to constructive beliefs, stablishing or focusing on natural rewards, awareness as well as clarification. Furthermore, the influence of these strategies on the challenges in the training process was discussed from the perspective of self-efficacy belief and self-determination theory. At the end, based on the Andragogy theory, some of participants’ motivations for attending the course were analyzed. Finally, based on the study findings, some recommendations were proposed for future research as well as some practical advice for better conducting similar educational courses was offered.
