  7. Abstract:
  8. Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most common motor disability among children that caused by damage to brain or defective development of brain before, during or just after birth. Due to this damage, children with CP have cognitive and motor problems. As an important activity of daily living, walking enhances independence, social activities and quality of life. Much of therapy for children is aimed to improve their gait. A usual technique to evaluate how a person walk and detect abnormal features in walking pattern is gait analysis. Lots of studies have been done on gait kinematics of CPs and classified them based on their kinematis. The purpose of this thesis is studying muscles activity of these patients. Concept of muscle synergy is a new hypothesis for describing how central nervous system control muscles activity.50 Cps for gait analysis test were recruited. Kinematics and electromyography data were collected simultaneously. Kinematics of all subjects categorized based on Rodda classification and by using EMG data, muscles synergies were extracted. Then the extracted synergies have been studied based on their structure and activation patterns. Finally it will be checked that patients with similar kinematics, have similar synergies or not. Results shown that eleven types of different synergy structures are existed for CPs during walking and across these 11 synergy, just three types of different activation patterns are observed. Synergies of different classes of Rodda shown that as kinematics of disease get worse, more similar synergies are observed across members of the group. Therefore in true-equinus group no common synergy structure is detected but in crouch gait, most of cases have same synergies. Because at initiation of disease, gait of patient is not mature but with time the gait match with the movement disability
