- In the past due to the lack of mechanical systems for air conditioning in the interior spaces, the buildings were designed to be able to maximize the use of natural forces such as solar and wind power. Natural ventilation is an old method of using natural forces. For example, wind tower is one of the traditional elements for using natural ventilation in the warm seasons for benefiting from wind and sun energy. In our country, Iran, in cities like Yazd, which are located in a warm and dry climate, the use of wind towers is very common and our predecessors were pioneer in this field. With the passage of time and the development of mechanical air conditioning systems, the use of natural ventilation, which was not compatible with modern architecture, was abandoned. By reduction in fossil fuels resources and increasing environmental impacts of exploiting these resources, using natural ventilation attracted engineer’s attention as a tool to optimize the buildings energy consumption and reduce the dependency on the mechanical HVAC systems. The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the potential of using natural ventilation and provide an optimal performance model for the building of the department of Energy Engineering at Sharif University of Technology. The methodology used in this thesis is based on the combination of network modeling and numerical analysis. Wind induced pressure coefficients are calculated by numerical analysis and entered into the Plus Energy Plus software as boundary conditions. The potential of using natural ventilation is gained with the help of the Energy-Polar Software which is based on the calculation of network modeling
