  7. Abstract:
  8. Production logging consists of running measurement instruments called logging tools into an oil or gas well to measure various parameters such as temperature, flow velocity, pressure, density, etc. The primary purpose for production logging is to allow enhancing production profits and decreasing costs. Nowadays the common way for fluid density measurement as a part of these tools depends on radioactive source. Special considerations must be taken upon the use of this principle due to its radioactive character. This thesis is focused on a non-radioactive method of determining density. The subject of this thesis is to consider methods for measuring density based on principle of acoustic waves with the use of piezoelectric transducers. There are two major ways of determining density via acoustic means. The First way of measuring density is to send and receive acoustic waves in order to measure some parameters like speed of sound that is related to density. The second way is to use mechanical resonator to generate sound waves. In this system the frequency of resonance is changing due to density of fluid around the resonator. In this research these two methods are being under investigation experimentally due to the harsh environment of gas and oil well to find a best solution
