  7. Abstract:
  8. Education has become a crucial issue worldwide, and it needs new techniques and technologies to create and raise interest and motivation towards learning. Serious games are gaining acclaim as viable solutions for enhancing educational processes; Serious games are interactive computer applications that use a challenging and amusing context to transfer a practical skill, knowledge or attitude to their users. Organizations and companies need an effective way for teaching their business processes to their employees. There are many business-related serious games. but few of them focus on business processes, most of which are business-specific and no precise approach is used in their development, as there is no comprehensive approach for such endeavors. The Model-Driven Development (MDD) approach has recently been suggested for serious game development, especially since it raises the degree of automation. However, existing model-driven game development methodologies fail to meet the minimum requirements; to name just one important shortcoming, existing methodologies are deficient as to proper definition of modeling levels and their associated model transformation rules. Furthermore, there is no model-driven methodology for serious game development in the context of business processes. In this project, a model-driven methodology has been proposed for serious game development in the context of business processes. It is based on a modeling framework at four levels of abstraction. Precise definitions are provided for the modeling levels and their corresponding model transformation rules. In the first phase of this research, general and model-driven processes and frameworks in the context of games, especially serious games, have been investigated. The current applications of serious games in business have then been studied. Based on the results of this literature review, the target model-driven methodology has been proposed. Finally, the proposed methodology has been evaluated according to four different categories of criteria (methodology, modeling, serious game in the context of business process, and model transformation); in addition, in order to empirically validate the proposed methodology, it has been applied to a small-scale serious game development project in a real organization. The evaluation results demonstrate the validity and applicability of the proposed methodology
