  7. Abstract:
  8. The seismic behavior of the non-structural components and their effect on the overall performance of the building structures is among the important issue that should be thoroughly investigated from different aspects such as the resiliency, and the replacing cost. On the other hand, in analysis and design of structures, assuming a rigid under-laying soil is not always right and the effect of soil-structure interaction should be taken into account in certain cases. A flexible support could affect the dynamic characteristics of the structures through elongating their natural vibrating periods as well as increasing their damping ratios, thus should not be ignored. If the period of a non-structural component be close to the natural period of any structural mode, the possibility of having a resonance in their response is feasible. Different building codes consider this amplification through introducing some coefficients. Despite of the dominant effect of the first structural mode in the structural response, the chance of dynamic response amplification of a non-structural member caused by the 2nd or 3rd structural vibrating modes is feasible. Considering the nonlinearity of the under-laying soil makes this investigating more complex. Considering three structural models with different number of floors, two sets of earthquake records were employed to accurately estimate the dynamic response of a non-structural component located on the top floor. The obtained results indicate that the soil-structure interaction may increase or reduce the response of non-structural components depending on different parameters such as shear wave velocity of soil, the natural periods of the structural system, and period of the non-structural component. Also, OpenSees software was utilized for modeling and seismic analyses of the considered building structural models
