  7. Abstract:
  8. Air pollution is treating civilians of megacities. One of the most dangerous pollutants is particulate matters with the aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 microns. For reducing the concentration of these particles in Tehran’s atmosphere, it is necessary to investigate the source’s contribution and emission factors. Receptor models such as Chemical Mass Balance are used for source apportionment analysis. The major input of these models is the source profile. Since vehicles are the only source of pollutant in the urban tunnels, these tunnels are ideal media in order to investigate the vehicle’s source profile and emission factor. This project aims to determine the source profile and the emission factor of light-duty vehicles by conducting field measurements in Niayesh tunnel, testing the samples and analyzing the output of experiments. The PM2.5 emission factor for Tehran’s light-duty vehicle fleet has been determined 16.23 mg.km-1.vehicle-1and 0.09 g.kg-1 (mass emitted per kg of fuel burned). Recognizing the pivotal role of Iron and Antimony’s non-exhaust emission sources such as brake wear is one of the most outstanding outputs of this research project. Among the trace elements Fe with 0.23 μg μg-1 OC and Al with 0.02 μg μg-1 OC, among the ions Ca with 0.055 and SO4 with 0.047 μg μg-1 OC, among the Alkanes Docosane with 0.0017 and Triacontane with 0.016 μg μg-1 OC, and among the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons Anthracenedione with 0.0003 and Benzo-perylene with 0.0002 μg μg-1 OC, where the most abundant species in Tehran’s light-duty vehicles source profile
