- Abstract:
- Natural Gas is one of the most important energy resources in the world. The U.S energy information administration(EIA) has reported that natural gas consumption will increase until 2030 in all participating sectors including industrial, domestic and electricity production.Although the use of natural gas as a source of energy has many advantages, natural gas physical condition made it’s transfer so challenging. Among the various types of transmission methods, using pipline is so conventional. Natural gas can be transmited through pipelines in a safe and reliable manner upto thousands of kilometers. For this reason, operation monitoring and control of gas transmission networks are so important in natural gas industry. As we know, transmission network is an infinite dimensional system which has to be control with a distributed control structure. Lots of distributed control techniques have been developed for distributed system but all of them have the same problem which makes them inappropriate for lots of practical transmission networks. The root of this restriction is dependency on the model used to predict the transmission network dynamic behavior. In addition, most of the natural gas networks have not a unique operational mode which makes it difficult (if not impossible) to come up with a single control scenario throughout their operations. In recent years, learning control methods has got lots of attentions in process control research community. The use of these methods does not require any state -space or imput-output model of the system, indeed they are based on various search methods (ranging from random to evolutionary ones) to come up with the appropraite decision at each time step. Game Theory and stochastic games present many powerfull tools that can be used in this area.In this research we considered the control of a gas transmission network as a game in which the players are supervisiors of various compressor stations. We design a fuzzy inference system which approximate player utility function that emulating the player’s rationality. This resulted in a two step game for distributed model-free control. This kind of game can be applied for systems in which there is a delay in utility evaluation of their palyers. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, a challenging gas transmission network has been designed and simulated. This network consists of two loops that made it’s nodes interdependent. The proposed algorithm has been used to control the operation of the transmission network in the event of demand response changes such that the network total fuel consumption has been almost minimzed. We achieved this objective without any need to design a model based control
