- Abstract:
- Tapering the beam along its length may lead to an increase in the voltage density of piezoelectric energy harvester. In this study, the energy harvester voltage with linear variable cross section is studied by developing an analytical method in both linear and nonlinear states. In linear mode, the results are compared with the experimental results. For the development of linear and nonlinear analytic relations, the Euler–Bernoulli beam and linear voltage variations in the thickness direction are used, and for the separation of variables, the mass normalized mode shapes has been used. The results of the linear analytical method are compared with the results of past research and experimental test and the low difference confirms the accuracy of the obtained solution. After ensuring the accuracy of the method, the effect of the coefficient of tapering and the thickness of the metal substrate has been studied. The results show that tapering the piezoelectric energy harvester beam can increase the voltage density in compare with the uniform cross section beam. In nonlinear modeling, material, geometric and damping nonlinearities are considered. Nonlinear differential equations are solved using multiple scales method. The results of the analytical method are compared with the results of previous analytical analyzes for the uniform section and a small difference in the results confirms the accuracy of the obtained relationships. After assuring the accuracy of the method, the effect of the excitation acceleration on the nonlinear response of the system is investigated and the necessity of using a nonlinear analytical solution for high acceleration is shown
