  7. Abstract:
  8. In recent years there has been an increasing attention and significance being devoted to promotion and implementation of policies and mechanisms which foster entrepreneurship in various countries. In such a setting, many researchers and policy advisers have recommended establishment of new institutions which cause the growth in the number of entrepreneurs as well as their success rate in establishing their enterprises. The introduction of "Accelerators" and their subsequent success, have attracted the attention of many entrepreneurship stakeholders, such as entrepreneurs, investors and policy makers. In spite of the establishment and growth of accelerators in many countries, so far there has been limited attention given to them in Iran. This research aims to analyze existing literature in the field of accelerators and investigate the presence and activity of Iran’s accelerators in its entrepreneurship ecosystem. To achieve this, an initial theoretical model is derived from previous research and then revised through conducting primary research investigating six cases of Iran's accelerators and incubators. The field study conducted has used semi-structured interviews with entrepreneurs, investors, management team of accelerators and public officials. In the resulting updated theoretical model, five steps are identified in the acceleration cycle of a typical accelerator which are awareness, selection of teams and investment, program, demo day, networking with graduates and other players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Based on the field study conducted, key success factors for each of these five primary steps of the acceleration cycle are identified and discussed
