- Abstract:
- The research methods presented in this dissertation are the result of the confrontation between medical science and engineering science. This contrast is intended to better understand the function of the middle ear system and the inner ear cochlea through modeling and finite element analysis and the effect of hearing aid use on the middle ear and cochlear function. The research began with the creation of a three-dimensional model of the middle ear using microCT imaging. Then the finite element model of the middle human ear was implemented using the same three-dimensional model. The results of the finite element model resulting from the loading on eardurm were calculated as displacement of the stape bone and Umbo displacement were compared with the experimental results measured by the Doppler laser. Then to examine the effect of hearing aid use an audiogram was first taken from a patient, and finally, with the doctor's opinion on the use of hearing aids, a suitable pressure benefit was suggested to compensate for hearing loss. Finally, the effect of hearing aid use on displacement was obtained. Then the external ear canal was added to the middle ear. And impedance of the external ear canal was obtained. Finally, the effect of hearing aid use on the impedance of the external ear canal was obtained. To investigate the function of the inner cochlea, a two-dimensional model was created using the values in the previous articles. Then the finite element model of the inner ear snail was created using the same two-dimensional model. The results of the model created by loading the velocity in the oval window have been calculated as the vibrational pattern of the basement membrane and fluid pressure changes in scala vestibuli and scala tympani parts. The results obtained for the vibrational pattern of the basement membrane have been qualitatively compared with the van Bekzi theory and the pressure changes obtained with the analytical results of the cochlear dynamics theory in previous articles. To design an alternative hearing aid replacement mechanism, two reverse piezoelectric with specific features are used, between which a two aluminum sheet is used. The dimensions used are such that it is located behind the eardrum and inside the cavity of the middle ear . Modeling was done using Abaqus software. The results of the displacement were compared with the results of the Umbo displacement due to the use of hearing aids
