- Abstract:
- Vehicle Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is a type of mobile Ad-hoc network (MANETs) which vehicles are mobile nodes of this network and it can be used for various applications such as secure data sharing between vehicles, sending road information to vehicles, traffic controlling and reducing road accidents, also primary types of these networks are implemented in some systems such as “Waze” and “Balad”. On the other hand, if the security requirments are not provide in these networks, attackers can use this network to cause disruptions in this network, including intentional accidents, so providing security requirements in these networks seems necessary. Data authentication and preserving privacy of the vehicule owner are the most important security requirements in these networks, and different schemes have been proposed to provide these two features simultaneously. Well-known schemes in this area are the “Authentication based on Smart Card” (ASC) scheme and the “Conditional Privacy preserving Authentication” (CPPA) Scheme. In this thesis, first we will reviwe and analyze the security and efficiency of the “authentication based on smart card scheme”. This scheme provides security requirement with continuous communications of the vehicle with RSUs and TAs and then we will propose a new improved ASC scheme that not only provides security requirement in VANET but also is more efficient than the other proposed schemes in the litratures. Then, we will analyse the security of the Conditional privacy preserving authentication based on tamper proof device (TPD) scheme , which is one of the efficient and secure scheme in this field, and we show that if the attackers can tamper these TPDs, it will not be able to meet many security requirements. Then we will introduce a new modified scheme using trusted platform module (TPM) which does not need constant communication with RSUs and TA to authenticate the V-2-V messages. Also, in the new proposed scheme we considered the possibility of tampering to TPMs and proved the security of our scheme in random Oracle model and we showed that this scheme provides many security requirements in this networks, such as anonymity and conditional privacy preserving even if tampering to TPMs occurs without needing to constant communications with RSUs. Also, considering that in the proposed scheme, we do not need permanent communications with the RSUs, and on the other hand, the possibility of tampering TPMs has been considered, this scheme has a better implementation capability in practice
