- Abstract:
- The use of concrete and steel composite structural systems has been extensively studied both numerically and experimentally. Composite concrete and steel beams consist of a steel beam on which the concrete slab is constructed using shear connections. The performance of concrete slabs and steel beams in steel composite concrete structures is generally provided by welded shear connectors on the upper flange of the steel beam. In this study, a more accurate model in numerical form will be conducted to investigate the effect of shear connectors installed in the composite beam in the critical area of beam to column connection, which is considered as a protected zone. The main objective of this thesis is to investigate numerically the effect of shear connectors parametric such as spacing and the size of connectors. For this purpose, the connection of the composite beam to the steel column was designed and modeled as an external connection with five models in Abacus software. All elements were solidly modeled and analyzed by quasi-static method under cyclic load. The results showed that the presence of a shear in the protected area at the junction of the composite beam to the steel column improves the behavior of the structure under the load of the reciprocating cycle and shows better performance
