- Abstract:
- Increasing population growth and scarcity of fresh water resources have created the challenge of water supply, especially in the Mena region. Thus, many countries in the region have turned to innovation in the development of high-energy seawater desalination technologies. Utilizing the waste heat of refineries in the desalination industry can reduce costs and preserve the environment. In this article, effective ways to use the waste heat of other flue recovery steam of Bandar Abbas oil refinery are investigated. The integration of the heat recovery system consisting of recuperative heat exchangers and heat pipes with thermal desalination plants is investigated by multi-stage flash and multi-effect distillation. For this purpose, heat recovery systems and thermal desalination plants are simulated separately. Also, shell and tube heat exchangers and heat pipe heat exchangers are designed according to the available heat of the heat recovery boiler flue gas. Then 9 schemes for heat recovery are introduced. Then, using sensitivity analysis, the best way to produce as much fresh water as possible is introduced. Levelized costs are also calculated and also the best path for effective use of resources is determined using the data envelopment analysis method. The results show that the use of 3-effect distillation thermal desalination plants with a production of approximately 18.6 tons per hour of fresh water using 5.3 MW exhaust gas energy is more suitable. Finally, a proposed scheme for heat recovery of flue gas through heat pipes is proposed, which can produce 10-96 kg / s of heated water to enter the desalination plants
