- Abstract:
- Reinforced concrete buildings with open ground storey are vulnerable to accumulate of large lateral displacement at the ground story. This is due to drastic reduction in the relative stiffness of the ground story compared to the upper stories, a phenomenon known as soft storey effect. Furthermore inevitable Existence of Opening in masonry infill and increasing it’s area reduces both the lateral strength and stiffness of the fully infilled RC frames so when percentage of the central opening is very high, the behaviour of the infilled frame approaches the bare frame. It is a perception about open ground storey buildings that openings in the upper stories infilled frame offset the soft storey effect. In this study, explaned the effect of the masonry infill with and withaout centeral opening on the RC frame. After comparison between simple numerical models of them, we choose an appropriate model and verified it. We carried out nonlinear inceremental dynamic analysis for each of the four and eight storey RC frames withaout infill in the ground story with opening ratio from 20% to 80% and three types of infill configuration in upper stories based on hunt & fill algorithm, using the finite element software OpenSEES. Then for each of the four limit states in Hazus technical manual, spectral accelerations obtained and fragility curves ploted using lognormal distribution function. From comparison of fragility curves in complete damage state, It is observed that in the masonry infills of upper stories, amount of opening ratio has no effect on the lateral load behavior of the open ground storey frames, because these graphs overlaps each other and their average spectral accelerations are almost equal. Also four open ground storey frames more fragile than eight storey ones
