- Abstract:
- The costly and time-consuming methods of traditional data collection through interviews or questionnaires have led researchers to use new methods, including mobile networks, to obtain the information they need. Information obtained from the mobile network has been widely used in recent studies due to features such as passive information generation, extensive coverage and low cost of data collection, and attempts have been made to use this information to model citizens activities and urban travel demand. However, extracting information such as travel patterns and mode share of transportation has been challenging given the nature of this type of data. This research pursues two goals separately that are related at the end. The first goal of the research is to obtain the travel pattern of travelers using mobile spatio-temporal data in order to facilitate the construction of activity-based models. At this stage, using features such as the start and end time of activities, land use around the stop, the duration of the stop and the number of stops, the type of activity is estimated and at the end, the travel chain of individuals is obtained. The second goal of the study is to obtain the type of travel mode share including vehicle, bus and pedestrian by applying clustering method using information such as travel speed, ease of access to public transportation, travel time and using information related to citizens travel pattern. In this regard, the spatio-temporal information of a relatively large number of mobile phone users in the city of Shiraz, which was collected for 40 hours, was used and after refining and debugging, the proposed methods to estimate the travel pattern and type of device were applied to them. Finally, for validation, the obtained results were compared by estimating similar parameters obtained from the information collected through the origin-destination census of Shiraz in 2016 .The results of this comparison showed the acceptable accuracy of determining the purpose of the trips. In the next step, to validate the used method, the results were compared with the table obtained from the Shiraz Household Travel Survey (SHTS), whose information was collected on the same day. The results showed that if there is a sample of at least 20 mobile phones between each origin-destination pair, a coefficient of determination of 90% is obtained to determine the share of bus travel
